ECF Access

Attorney CM/ECF Account Eligibility

All attorneys applying for CM/ECF access must meet the following eligibility requirements:

  • An attorney who is a member in good standing of the bar of the United States District Court for the District of Massachusetts
  • An attorney who is not a member of the bar of the United States District Court for the District of Massachusetts, but is a member of the bar of any other United States District Court or the bar of the highest court of any state who has been granted leave to appear pro hac vice by the United States Bankruptcy Court for the District of Massachusetts
  • An attorney representing the United States of America, the United States trustee and/or his/her assistants, chapter 7, 11, 12, or 13 trustees, and
  • Others as the Court may allow in its discretion on prior motion and order.

How to Obtain a CM/ECF Login and Password

All attorneys must complete the following registration requirements in order to obtain access to CM/ECF:

  • To request an ECF filing account application for an attorney, send an email request to The email request should include your date of admission to the U.S. District Court for the District of Massachusetts, or the case number and document number of the order granting admission pro hac vice. Requests for a creditor login will not be acknowledged. For creditor filings, please see: Creditor Information
  • Agree to comply with the Massachusetts Local Bankruptcy Rules, specifically including the Electronic Filing Rules found in Appendix 8 of the Massachusetts Local Bankruptcy Rules
  • Obtain a PACER account
  • Establish an email account to receive electronic notices through CM/ECF
  • Meet the court's Equipment and Software Requirements

CM/ECF Attorney Account Password Reset

To request a CM/ECF account password reset email, enter your login ID here (leave the password field blank) and click the "Forgot your password" link. If you do not know your login ID, contact the IT Help Desk at 617-748-5385.

CM/ECF Equipment and Software Requirments

  • A personal computer running a standard platform such as Windows or Macintosh
  • Internet access and a browser. The system has been certified with Firefox and Internet Explorer
  • Word processing software
  • Software to both read and create PDF documents
  • A document scanner may be necessary to create document images in PDF format that are not created via your word processing software, such as exhibits or other supporting documents
